Childhood
I have a perfect childhood life. My mother is a kindergarten
teacher and my father is a farmer. (Cocoa, lemon, latex rubber, orchard) So, do we have a technical definition for "Childhood"?
Some of us grow up much faster the other. Contrary, most of us refuses to grow up, ask most female, they will agree that their
male partner will never grew up. And we call all gay men "boy" regardless their age right?!
We don't have everything while we were growing. My
mother was an excellent mom, she always make sure we have more than we asked for. She worked really long hour to make sure
my brother and I were provided for. She helps out in the plantation in the morning and teaches afternoon classes.
My brother and I learnt to depend on ourselves at
very young age since my parents are not around all that much. He was two years my senior, and he was my big brother. Most
kids. they not necessary welcome the birth of siblings as they have to share their attention from parents with the new-born.
However, my mom told me that my brother was overjoyed to have a little brother even at the age of two.
Over those years we ran wild in the plantation surrounding
by 9 dogs, dozens of fishes, a monkey and rosters, I had the most memorable days. Weekend often means spending the day swimming
in the pond, fishing in the river or camping in tropical jungle.
Adolescence
Adolescence
has to be the most traumatizing growing up experience for everyone, and there was no exception for me. The tension between
my parents has been brewing for years.
On my 17th birthday on July 22, 1990, my brother
killed in a car accident and this incident forever changes all of our lives. My parents went through an ugly divorce
after the death of my brother; they were separated a year earlier and I have living on my own since their separation.
My
sister is 7 years younger than me. She became a loner. Her way of dealing with all these was burying herself in books.
She also took up Tae Kwon Do since it was one of my brother's passions. She subsequently became a black belt and a state champion.
She is now attending university in Australia, training to be a physical therapist.
As
for me, I went to college in Hawaii in 1994. Those are the best years for me. Since I do not have rich parents,
I had to work very hard to pay for my tuition. I managed to secure 8 scholarships through those years and graduated in
less than 3 years.
Adulthood I met Michael, my first and only relationship when I
was in Hawaii. We were together for 2years till I moved to San Francisco. We are still very close until today. I am also very close to his parents when I was in Washington DC since
they live there too.
I moved
to San Francisco in 1997 after graduating from college. I returned to Malaysia after a year in San
Francisco. Subsequently, I moved to Shanghai for a short period of time in 1999. I arrived in Washington DC since Fall
2000.
3 years
in DC was enough. I decided to move back to Kuala Lumpur and try to re-establish my life there. I left DC March 2003 and spent
the next 4 months traveling in Europe. Finally, I arrive in Malaysia again on the July 03, 2003.
